Return to base

The Booklet - background information included in the CD version:
In 1979 SLADE recorded the album "Return to base" which was released under the BARN lable owned by their manager/producer Chas Chandler. It was the first recording produced by SLADE themselves (in their favorite studio, Portland Studios) which at that time was owned by Chas Chandler and was in fact the famous studio from the 1960s preciously called "IBC Studios".
The album was released in England in 1979 and a little later in the Netherlands. "Return to Base" became a real rarity and collector's item as no other territory hat the rights to release the album, and the number of units pressed was quite low as the BARN label was very much a front runner for today's indie record labels.

"9 to 5", one of the bonus tracks, was released on the "Six of the Best" record label (also owned by Chas) one year later on an EP with 6 tracks (for the price of a single!) And was also produced by SLADE while "Two Track Stereo - One track Mind" was produced by Jim Lea in 1984 for Perseverance Limited. This track was the bonus track on the 12" RCA chart single "Run Runaway". In fact neither of the bonus tracks have ever been released on CD before nor have several of the album tracks.
A short while after the "Return to base" adventure, SLADE succeeded in having a great comeback with their performance at the Reading Festival, and a new recording contract with RCA followed.
